What did Jesus say about friendship? He said “I call you friends and not servants any longer”.
Why did Jesus call us as his friend?
The word friend came from Proto-Germanic word frijōndz that means “lover". When Jesus said that the greatest commandment is to love one another, He meant that we should be a friend to to others. And that’s what He did. Jesus loved the disciples, He was their lover. He became their friend.
| He was a friend and a companion to them.
A friend is a companion. It’s interesting to know that the word companion came from two Latin words com (with/together) and panis (bread). A companion is someone you share bread with. And that’s what Jesus literally did. He shared bread with the disciples. He shared bread with His friends.
| He shared meal with sinners.
Jesus was a companion to them. And He didn’t just share any bread. Remember on the Last Supper? He broke the bread, and shared to His disciples. He shared the bread that gives us everlasting life. He shared Himself. And on the cross,
| He offered himself to his friends, to you.
Jesus did what he said, "the greatest love you can have for your friend is to give your life for them." Jn 15:13
That's what friends are for -- us loving each other, us sharing a meal,
us sharing Jesus with one another.
Who are your friends?
Is Jesus being shared in your friendship?
Are you a friend?
Are you willing to give your life for your friends?
